Douglas Gilham has
been at Avalon Wellness Center for four years and practicing massage for
13 years. He graduated from Spectrum Center School of Massage in
1993. Since graduation he has become a Certified Massage Educator, Board
Certified and Nationally certified and proficient in the following
modalities:
1994 - Certified in
Paul St. Johns Neuromuscular Therapy, which is a method of specific deep
tissue work that works all portions of the muscle and includes the
origin, insertion and belly of the muscle. This work is done within the
client’s tolerance. Further release is often accompanied by muscle
energy techniques and positional release techniques that help reset the
muscle groups to their normal resting state.
1995 - Certified with
Maruti Seidman in Polarity Balancing, which is a gentle form of
energetic work. This work is holistic and clients are encouraged to
become more aware of the bodywork they receive, diet and exercise. This
work is a wonderful way to relax, quiet the nervous system and does not
require the removal of clothing.
1996 - Certification
in Vodder's Manual Lymphatic Drainage was obtained in Victoria, B.C.
Recertification is required every two years. This method of skin work
greatly helps with detoxification, helps reduce pain, reduce
inflammation in swollen joints and tissue, reduce stress and anxiety,
and for those with diagnosed lymphedema more intensive work is offered.
1998-2001 - Guild
Certification in the Feldenkrais Method, which is a very gentle form of
somatic education or reeducation. The method offers new information to
the brain and as a consequence more movement options become available.
This method is also done with the client clothed.
2002 - National Board
Certification in Reflexology. This is a gentle to firm way to treat the
feet and often other problems that do not respond to different massage,
alternative or regular medical methods of treatment.
2002 - Registered
Polarity Practitioner, which gave me greater understanding and
appreciation of this gentle work and the need to work with the whole
person.
2005 - Bowen
Practitioner. When all other methods have failed, often Polarity,
Reflexology, and Bowen become primary tools to nudge the wisdom of the
body and help facilitate wellness. Much of this work can be done with
the client remaining clothed and it can be done anywhere, anytime. The
experience is gentle, pleasant, produces excellent results and focuses
on the whole person.
Douglas is
credentialed to work with most insurance companies, personal injury and
L&I. He prefers to schedule his own clients. Please call or email your
questions. |
